When compared to land available on other Caribbean islands, Dominican Republic real estate is much less costly. That is not to say however, that it inexpensive. Due to the many desirable aspects of Caribbean locations, in general land prices throughout the region are substantially higher than in other areas of the world. The Dominican Republic, in part due to its size, has a supply of land that is only exceeded by its neighbor to the northwest, Cuba. Therefore, land prices are generally less than in many other Caribbean locations.
Comparing Dominican Republic Real Estate Prices
One of the potential pitfalls for investors considering a Dominican Republic real estate investment lies in the extreme spread in price for what seem to be similar types of property. For instance, beach front property prices can range from around $10 USD/m2 to well over $500 USD/m2. Location and the existing infrastructure can range from remote, difficult to access with no utilities to modern tourist resort environments. It is crucial to take this into consideration when evaluating property prices in the country.
